Dragón mágico

Impresionante el efecto óptico de esta pequeña figura. ¿Que de qué estoy hablando? Pues del "Dragón Mágico" o "illusion Dragon". Es una pequeña figura de papel que se puede realizar muy fácilmente a partir de una hoja de papel impresa y convenientemente cortada y montada. Representa a un dragón posado sobre un pedestal que tiene la curiosa manía de... seguirnos con la cabeza según nos vamos moviendo. Al final de este artículo he puesto un vídeo donde se ve el efecto (y también el truco), pero he de decir que si bien en el vídeo la cosa queda chula, en la realidad impresiona bastante más.

La figura en cuestión está elaborada por Binary Arts (ahora llamada Thinkfun), una empresa dedicada a la realización de juegos de ingenio, y a su vez fue inspirada por un trabajo presentado en una de las reuniones que hacen en Estados Unidos los seguidores del célebre escritor de libros de matemática recreativa Martin Gardner. La ilusión se basa en la confusión del cerebro al interpretar la forma de la cabeza dragón, cuyo morro creemos por el dibujo que se aproxima hacia nosotros cuando en realidad es cóncavo.

Pero bueno, quizás lo más interesante es experimentarlo uno mismo, así que aquí os pongo las instrucciones para ello:

En primer lugar, debes de descargarte la plantilla del dragón mágico. Ésta a la que enlazo desde aquí es una versión hecha por mí, con las instrucciones en español (ya que la original venía con ellas en inglés) y preparada para imprimir en A4.
A continuación, deberás de imprimirla (merece la pena hacerlo en color).
El siguiente paso es recortar y montar la figura según las instrucciones que vienen indicadas en la propia hoja. Aquí lo único que necesitarás es una tijera y un poco de cinta adhesiva (o en su defecto pegamento) para pegar tres de las solapas.
Una vez montado, para experimentar la mirada del dragón mágico, sólo tienes que dejarle posado en algún sitio, alejarte de él algo más de medio metro y, estando frente a él moverte a su alrededor. Además, si te alejas de el dragón algo más (alrededor de un par de metros) ya ni siquiera hace falta el cerrar un ojo para percibir la cabeza del dragón siguiéndote. ¡Pruébalo, merece la pena!

Si después de hacer el efecto os quedáis con ganas de más, no puedo dejar de deciros que tenéis en Internet este mismo dragón en diversos colores, pero también otras figuras que hacen uso de este mismo efecto visual: concretamente yo he encontrado un perro, un gato, un coatí y un par de chicas manga: una con el pelo verde y otra con el pelo rosa.
